It's Part Impressive And Part Disgusting That This Is The First Time In 29 Years The New York Area Has All Its Teams In The NBA and NHL Playoffs

NY Post- New York is set for a spring to remember.

After the Islanders clinched a postseason berth with a 4-2 win over the Canadiens on Wednesday, all five local hockey and basketball teams have made the playoffs in the same season for the first time in 29 years.

The last time a New York team in any of the four major sports won a championship, was Feb. 5, 2012, when the Giants won Super Bowl XLVI.

That span feels like an eternity in this sports-obsessed municipality.

And if the last time all five local NHL and NBA teams made the postseason is any precedent, there will be plenty to cheer about over the next two months.

I knew things were bad around the City That Never Sleeps, but man what a headline. It's been dark here for our sports teams. The Mets are a contender yet always seem on the brink of their window closing with every bizarre injury and blown divisional lead, The Yankees are contenders yet have to deal with a 13 year World Series drought. We celebrated a Giants Wild Card win because it seems like forever since we had a big game to root for. The Jets ... well some things never change. 

In the "winter sports" it's been just as bad. The Nets botched the Big 3, the Knicks Sidetalk video was our only good moment in a while. The Rangers have gotten close but can't get a cup. Frankie's Islanders suffered their own heartbreaks, and The Devils have the Frank the Tank curse. But it finally seems as things are changing around NYC. The Knicks look promising and may actually win this series, The Nets rallied after Kyrie and Durant left. Frankie Borelli is happy again ... 

The Rangers have youth and promise, and Frank gets to go to a Devils playoff game. 

Which is all great stuff for a massively passionate area of sports like NYC. It's great that the city will be buzzing, it's great that games will matter, it's great that people are engaged again and have games to root for/ get excited for / suffer heartbreak from. All of that is awesome, but on the other hand it's absolutely insane that it's been 29 years since all 5 NY and NJ teams have been able to put it together. I know it was bad, but I didn't know it was this bad for so long. Unreal. How can teams in NY be this bad? If for nothing else than to quiet their lunatic fans from calling the team hotline and harassing ticket sales reps. 

In the end, I'm glad sports matter again this spring in NY and after such long drought I hope it's a yearly occurrence and not just a flash in the pan. We as NY fans deserve it, but also sports are better when NY teams are involved, and even if other cities won't mention it they know it.
